Montsec Interpretation Centre, Vilanova de Meià

The Montsec Interpretation Centre is located in the town of Vilanova de Meià. Since April 2021, a selection of the best fossils from the lithographic limestone sites of La Pedrera and La Cabroa, donated by the Institut d’Estudis Ilerdencs Studies of the Lleida Provincial Council, has been on display. The basis of this exhibition are the panels and showcases of the exhibition “Paleontology in the lands of Lleida. La Pedrera de Meià and the beginning of a modern world” adapted to the structure of this building.

The exhibition is divided into an introduction on the fossiliferous richness of Montsec and the different types of fossilization, on the ground floor, and a second floor where there is a selection of fossils of insects, crustaceans, plants and fish recovered by the members of the Geo-palaeontology section of the IEI.

The center has a shop with products related to the diverse Mesozoic world, as well as games and educational units to carry out with groups of schoolchildren or families.

It is open every weekend of the year and also at special times during the Christmas, Easter, July and August holidays.
