The dispersion of the collection, history and content

 

Despite being sites that have contributed an exceptional number of new species (114) and the richness and diversity of fauna and flora. The sites of La Pedrera de Meià and La Cabroa are not known to the general public.

The main reason for the lack of knowledge of the global importance of these fossils lies in the dispersion of the collection, the result of the numerous excavation campaigns carried out by scientific institutions and also by individuals.

There are currently about 8,000 known fossils deposited in a dozen public collections and an unknown number in private collections.
